Infant/Child First Aid & CPR Class

Course Dates: 7/10, 8/21, 9/18

Time: 3-5PM

Presented by Boston NAPS

This class is taught by a Registered Nurse who is BLS certified and is based upon the teachings of the American Heart Association from the Family and Friends CPR Anytime program. The course covers CPR response for an infant and child as well as what to do if an infant or child is choking. During the course, first aid response is covered for cuts, burns, anaphylaxis, head injuries, bee stings, and more!

Topics include:

  • Infant CPR demonstration and hands-on practice
  • Child CPR demonstration and hands-on practice
  • Infant choking and how to respond
  • Child choking and how to respond
  • When to call 911 and what to do until help arrives
  • First Aid for cuts, burns, head injuries, and bee stings
  • How to recognize an allergic reaction and/or anaphylaxis and demonstration and practice for using an Epi-Pen

Newborn Essentials

Course Dates: 8/7, 9/4

Time: Newborn Essentials 3-5PM

Presented by Boston NAPS

Learn how to care for your newborn by getting some hands-on practice during this class! You will learn how to change a diaper, give a sponge bath, and perfect your newborn swaddle. The class is taught by a Postpartum Registered Nurse and will help to answer all of your questions and prepare you for what to expect for life at home with your newborn during the first few weeks. *This class includes a folder of course materials.

Topics include:

  • The basics of a baby- understanding the difference between a baby and an adult
  • Normal newborn behaviors
  • What to expect right away after your delivery
  • Newborn care
  • The In’s and Out’s for Poops and Pees
  • Newborn Sleep Cycle
  • Newborn Feeding Patterns and ways to feed (breastfeeding vs. bottle feeding)
  • Introducing bottles and/or pumping
  • Feeding your baby, diapering your baby and bathing your baby
  • Soothing your baby with the 5 S’s
  • Newborn Safety, Screening and Vaccinations
  • Car Seat Safety

Breastfeeding Basics Class

Course Dates: 8/7, 9/4

Time: Breastfeeding Basics 5-6PM

Presented by Boston NAPS

 This class is taught by a Registered Nurse and Lactation Specialist to prepare you for breastfeeding your newborn. It is a valuable opportunity to discuss initiating breastfeeding, various feeding positions, skin-to-skin contact, and ensuring a successful latch. The course also includes a short video to demonstrate latching your baby during breastfeeding. *This class includes a folder of course materials.

Topics include:

  • The health benefits for both mothers and babies from breastfeeding
  • The Anatomy and Physiology of breastfeeding
  • How our bodies make milk
  • The I’s and Out’s for Poops and Pees of a breastfed baby
  • The first hour of life after delivery
  • Skin to skin contact with your baby after delivery and beyond
  • Initiating and sustaining a successful latch
  • Positioning your baby during breastfeeding
  • Pumping and safe storage of breast milk
  • When to bottle feed or supplement for your baby
